Aviation Safety in South Sudan

Africa contributes only 3.9% in air traffic, but records 19% of aviation accidents, terms fatalities. High accident rates are attributed to poor compliance with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) Standards and Recommended Practices (SARPs). This study analyzed the prevalence aircraft accidents youngest African country, South Sudan, which obtained independence July 9, 2011. The quantitative examined databases determine number manufacturers models, fatalities, causes categorized as pilot error, technical failure, traffic control, or weather-related events. were collected from Safety Network (ASN) database, is maintained by Flight Foundation. A total 83 cases examined, 32 satisfying criteria covering 2011 May 2021 period. findings show that Antonov aircrafts account for a majority (31.25%), followed Cessna (21.88%) LET (15.63%). involved carrying 378 occupants, 72 occupants died, representing fatality rate 19.5%.
